Wishful Thinking (Punk Rock) - Artist Discovery

Todays Artist Discovery is all about Melbourne (Australia) based punk rockers, Wishful Thinking!

With a wealth of experience in the pop punk/rock world, the seasoned musicians having been releasing music and touring since the late nineties into the noughties!

The talented four piece fuse together quirky, melodiously engaging guitar riffs with an electrifyingly upbeat and tightly locked rhythm section and catchy, committed vocal hooks/harmonies...

Wishful Thinking fuses the creative strengths of brothers Carl Jackson (vocals/guitar) and Lachie Jackson (guitar) joined by Alistair Elkins (bass) and Leigh Thompson (drums).

The group originally formed in Tasmania back in 1998 and immediately began casting big waves amongst the Australian punk rock scene - earning them a record deal with one of the most promising labels at the time, Boomtown Records.

The band went on to play with the likes of Millencolin, MXPX, Anberlin, Area 7, Antiskeptic, The Getaway Plan, Behind Crimson Eyes and Seraphs Coal (to name a few) before disbanding in 2006. An extremely impressive run indeed...

Over a decade later and Wishful Thinking are back! Thirteen years since they last graced the stage, the talented collective reformed in 2019 with an exhilarating 18 track album, 'Dreams Get Left in the Past'.

Another year later and the Aussie rockers show no signs of slowing down any time soon! In April, the group released an extremely impressive 43 track album called 'Loving Life' - an exciting chapter for the band.

Their first single back, 'Time To Be Alone', was also released in April and has been picking up traction down under, receiving radio play on two of Australia's finest stations Triple J and Triple M...

Their latest single 'I Get Lonely' was released on 22nd May and offers more than a delicious slice of punk rock goodness...

Recorded by the skilful David Carr and the band themselves, the track rides a wave of high octane energy from start to finish - providing a delightfully enjoyable listening experience.

Accompanying the release montage style music video impressively directed by David Butler. The fast paced and well edited video is worth a watch...and it just so happens we've embedded it below for you to check out! Technology these days, eh!

With the bar set very high indeed, the groups next single is titled 'The Wrong Team' and features the talented John "Stevo" Stevens from popular Aussie ska band Area-7.

The new tune promises more of Wishful Thinking's satisfyingly good sound but with an added unique dosage of Stevo magic...we absolutely cannot wait...

Here's to the awesome Australian four piece and their future!
