The Fiddlers Elbow #SaveOurVenues

What a year it's been already. We began hosting our live events at The Fiddlers Elbow in London - kicking the year off with an awesome sold out headline show for Pop Punk four piece, DoubleA...

Another show later and COVID-19 happened. This pandemic has, of course, caused the vast majority of industries many problems - with the music industry no exception...

With it seeming incredibly unlikely music venues will reopen too soon and many independent venues who rely on packed out rooms to survive, the UK live music scene stands at huge risk.

CEO of the Music Venue Trust, Mark Davyd, told NME in an interview that"around 80% of the circuit is currently predicted to close if we don’t act now".

Quick to take action, Mark and his team (who represent 670 independent UK music venues across the UK) set up the Save Our Venues campaign - providing venues across the UK with the means to receive donations and support, alongside a combined national fundraiser. Here's how they explained it...

"The situation is dire, government support has been exhausted, and it now falls to artists, music fans, local communities and the wider industry to take action.

Put bluntly, without these venues the opportunities for artists and audiences to connect in a meaningful way at a local level will simply disappear in a lot of cases.

And if they go they will never come back. Please help us to help grassroots music venues to survive this unprecedented threat to their existence. Please help us to #saveourvenues".

For this particular article, we'll be focussing in on the venue that we host our live events at - The Fiddlers Elbow - whom we are incredibly proud to work with.

We do, however, recommend checking out the Save Our Venues website to see how you can also get involved in venues near you...

For over 40 years now, music venue The Fiddlers Elbow (Camden) have opened to their doors to multiple generations of aspiring musicians, seasoned performers and of course, music lovers.

The entire venue team are very talented professionals - each with consistently high production values.

Their commitment to giving all artists a chance and a fair deal has helped to further the careers of thousands of musicians over the years - as well as strengthening the legendary London music scene.

The venue recently set up a Crowdfunder page to help tackle the forced closure...

In a statement on the site, the venue said:

"We operate on the tiniest of margins and with rent and outgoings on the property in Camden being so high we're worried about our future due to the Covid-19 crisis. We've calculated that our monthly expenditure on rent, wages, utilities and all the other demands small businesses are faced with, will be far more than we can pay in relation to the business's takings.

This is because when lockdown is lifted, it will take a long time for us to be able to open fully and operate at a level that will meet our monthly outgoings over the coming year and beyond. Operating a small music venue and adhering to the government guidelines of social distancing will be impossible.

We will need financial support until people are safe and content with mixing close together, however long that may be. If we do not secure the financial support we need, then The Fiddler's Elbow will close and become a block of flats. Very sad, but true.

Your donations will be used to help us keep hold of our business, support our staff and sound engineers who are currently out of work, and leave us in a position where we will be able to survive the troubled months we have ahead of us and therefore continue to provide musicians and music lovers a place to come and enjoy live music."

And so now - music lovers, musicians - wherever you are, you can help save this iconic British venue.

You can do this by making a donation at, or sharing the link of, The Fiddlers Elbow's Crowdfunder page.
