Inbox Interviews: Southbank Crows (Alt Rock)

Southbank Crows are an Alt Rock 4 piece hailing from Surrey & South London. The band recently released their single Wasting Time at the end of February, earning them close to an impressive 40,000 streams on Spotify already.

We caught up with guitarist/vocalist Will Bright to find out more...

So why the name Southbank Crows?

The name actually comes from rehearsing on the Southbank in London during the bands earlier days mixed with a theft from Counting Crows, who we all love haha.

If you had to explain your sound in just one sentence, what would it be?

A lively threesome of Alternative Rock with a touch of real life.

What do you play?

William Bright (Vocals and Guitar), Ryan Fielder, (Drums and MD) & Mathew Willis (bass and Backing Vocals)

When did you start making music?

The band formed in a small dark room in Deptford at an audition.

What have been your best moments as a musician so far?

I think working on the album has been great, to be honest though the journey to this point has been amazing, full of highs and lows that really help steer love and passion in music.

What can we expect from a Southbank Crows live show?

A fun, energetic experience thats just us wanting to share with people that want to join our family.

If you could support any band/artist, who would it be and why?

God there are so many haha, I reckon it would be ‘Busted, Gaslight Anthem, Tool and Foo Fighters’ to name a few! Can you make this happen? Please.. haha

The music industry can be incredibly difficult, especially for upcoming music artists - what has your experience been like so far balancing ‘doing musician things’ with also running the business side?

It is the hardest thing isn’t it! I mean we all have jobs that have to be full time, but we do dedicate all our spare time and travel for shows no matter what. It really is a love, especially at the moment what with the UK and most of the World on lock down. The business side is most likely Matt spinning his wand of business wonder mixed with Ryan’s ability to somehow work his way around social media.

Who are 3 other bands/music artists that we should all go and check out?

You should check out ‘Best of Enemies’ who have some absolute belters, anything ‘Brian Fallon puts his name too because he’s basically a god and Sam Russo too.

What’s next for Southbank Crows?

The support on the first single has been amazing though and we are working on rescheduling shows etc (at time of interview due to Covid 19 pandemic) with more music coming out soon too, we’re thinking of releasing the second single in spring so the best thing would be to get on our social media pages for more updates!
