Todays Inbox Interview is with Pop/Electronic/R&B singer songwriter, Sinikka Monte!
Following a very strong debut back in November 2019, the talented young musician has shaped an incredibly upbeat, melodious and impressive sound for herself with her second single 'Play Pretend' - released recently on 19th June...
We caught up with Sinikka to find out more about the new record, her musical influences and what it's like being an up and coming musician...
Please describe your sound in just one sentence…
It is passionate, authentic and versatile.
Having grown up as a childhood dancer, creativity clearly runs thick through your veins. When/what inspired you to become a musician?
Hannah Montana, jk. I realized at the age of 12 that I could sing and then wrote a few songs that were really bad. LOL After meeting my first producer I got really inspired and then it was clear that, this is all I want to do.
Who are 3 other music artists that you look up to?
Ariana Grande, Madison Beer and Imaging Dragons
For yourself, what makes music so important?
It is an outlet and it helps me to cope with life.
Your latest single ‘Play Pretend’ was released recently on 19th June - what was the writing/recording experience like for this song?
I wrote the song fairly quickly as I was thinking about a person who I was attracted to.
First I wanted it to start like “Love You Like a Love Song” by Selena Gomez, just love the beat but then later on I got inspired by Social House and thus the guitar in the beginning.
The harmonies developed while I was in lock down and because I wanted to add dept into the song. Recording the vocals was so effortless because I felt so at ease with my producers.
The music video for the song is an impressively entertaining watch - what was shooting that like?
I think the BTS is better than the music video LOL. We had sexiness training the night before. The director, AD and I watched music videos and tried to copy the movements of the artists.
We shot it in 10 hours without breaks and I didn’t think I could look and move like that (I definitely didn’t wake up like that). The whole video shoot was like from a dream, one of the happiest days in my life so far.
The music industry can be a very difficult place for up and coming artists - what have your experience of the behind the scenes businessy parts been like?
My momager does most of the promotion. It is hard work getting exposure and to get the right people to listen to your music. Everything seems to be for sale and because the market is so conservative in Austria, it is hard to get into the main radio stations.
What advice would you give to other aspiring artists who are just starting out?
You should not be envious of other musicians’ success as there are enough fans for everyone and people usually fan many artists at the same. Also keep believing in yourself and stay humble and support other artists.
What can we expect from a Sinikka Monte live show?
My acoustic set is intimate and emotional but hopefully soon I can perform with a band and then I really would like to radiate the energy Imaging Dragon’s gives out at their live performances.
If you had to pick one, what has been your favourite live performance so far?
It wasn’t the drive-in movie show, that is for sure. I guess it was when I performed as an opening act for an Austrian band called Zweikanalton.
If you could tour with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Ariana Grande because she is the funniest and I think that I would get along with her really well.

Who are 3 other up and coming artists we should look out for?
Church Honey, The West View and Secret Macs Zambia, I discovered them on BBC Introducing on Fridays.
What’s next for Sinikka Monte?
I have started producing my next single Deadlocked which is part of an EP coming out in October or so. The video I have planned for this song is super ambitious so will see. I also want strings in it.
And so concludes our interview! A huge thank you to Sinikka for her time. We absolutely love the new record and cannot wait to see/hear more!
