Please describe your sound in just one sentence...

A multi-influenced indie folk sound with an intimate and autobiographical storytelling.

Who, or what, inspired you to become a musician?

Bruce Springsteen. My family is obsessed with him sowhile I wasgrowing up I didn’t have a choice! He made me love music through his lyrics, his sound and his amazing live shows! He is still such an inspiration in terms of the musician I would like to be.

What does music mean to you?

I realised thisnot that long ago, but music to me is the only way I can express what I feel without any barrier. Music makes me feel totally free... but I guess we all say this, right?

What’s the last song you listened to?

I am currently obsessed with LP’s live album “Live in Moscow”. I have been listening to it entirely for the past month and I forcemyself to stop but I can’t! In particular, I love “The Power” and how better it sounds live than on the album. I really like LP, I thinkher persona is central for a better industry.

You have played some awesome shows both in the UK and in Italy, what have been some of the highlights for you?

Thank you for the “awesome”! Yes, I have been going around quite a lot to promote my EP “Like Water”, which I released in November 2018. I love performing live, but there are two gigs I will always keep with me for sure: one is the sold out night in Notting Hill Arts Club in London, more than a hundred people were there, singing my songs with me.

Crazy! The other one is a live gig I did in Verona, Italy, where I played my repertoire with a string section. I actually released it digitally so you can listen to it yourself, it was a great gigand I got play alongside one of my favourite italian singer songwriters, Pietro Berselli.I still get emotional when I think about it, what a night!

What can we expect from a GiuliaTudisco live performance?

I always try to balance fun and emotionality. My ultimate goal is to make you have a great time, but while you’re going back home I would like you to think “wow, that was deep!”and make you question things, people... your surroundings basically. A bit ambitious, I know, but I’m working on it, especially with the new album.

If you could tour with any artist/band - dead or alive - who would you pick and why?

Just because Bruce Springsteen would be too obvious, I’m gonna go with Jeff Buckley.

I think touring with him might have been the perfect balance that I mentioned in the previous question. I would have learned a lot.

You recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for your new album - what inspired you to do this and how has it been going so far?

Yes, I did! As independent artist I don’t have the resources of a label, so the budget is often very limited. I’ve been writing for over a year and I soon realised that I had everything pretty clear in my mind in regard to where I want to go musically and conceptually with my next album.

As you know, recording an entire album requires a higher effort in terms of people, time and of course money. So starting a crowdfunding campaign was definitely a valid option that could allow me to release my music independently, still aiming for a good quality product. In fact, the initial goal we set was the minimum budget that could balance a reachable goal and a fair quality product.

Thankfully, I received a lot of support so far and we reached the initial goal in just two weeks! Though I still can’t believe it, it’s not over yet! We just started a Phase 2 of this campaign which includes many surprises and mini-challenges that I will launch to involve and engage people even more. This is just the beginning, so stay tuned for updates and fun times.

Musically, what can we expect from the new album?

I’m so so so excited for the new album. I have been experimenting both lyrically and musically, and the outcome is a sort of concept album, inspired by an Italian novelist of the early 20th Century... I am giving too much hints already! All I can say is that I am working to deliver a full experience, from the album to the live shows...even the merchandise!

How can people get involved?

You can find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Spotify. I am always in need of feedback so feel free to reach me and let me know what you think!

Who are 3 other up and coming artists that we should all look out for?

I met so many musicians in the past years and it’s hard to pick just three...

  • The first one is PRYNNE, she is an outstanding DIY artist who loves to experiment with sounds!

  • BiVio are a duo from Paris, he plays the guitar and she plays the cello, the outcome is amazing.

  • Then I’m gonna go with Dom Glynn, I saw him by chance in a small bar in Camden and he was golden: cowboys hat, cowboy boots, and the soul of Johnny Cash!

And so concludes our interview with the wonderfully talented and vibrant Giulia Tudisco! It's always awesome to find a great sounding up and coming artist, even more so when they seem to be a genuinely lovely person.

We think Giulia is certainly well on her way to ticking 'all the boxes' and cannot wait to see what comes next!
